Kia Kaha xx

I have just read this Facebook post from a dear friend in London who has just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I wanted to share this as a way of spreading the word. Please read. I cannot explain it better than she can.
Kia Kaha Annie! Xxx

Dearest Facebook friends,
I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer, so I am now a statistic, one of the 1 in 8 women in the UK with this diagnosis. I am not posting this fact for sympathy or attention. I have the best family and friends I could wish for. This post is to urge you all to remind your lovers, wives, sisters, mothers, friends to ‘listen to your body’. If they are post-menopausal and experience any persistent breast pain, go to your doctor and ask to be referred to a breast cancer hospital.

I was lucky to find a very small pea-sized lump in my painful breast. My GP couldn’t feel it, but she referred me immediately on the basis of ongoing breast pain. The mammogram didn’t show it, but the ultrasound did, so fortunately, I found the cancer early which is good, but was thanks to my body’s warning system of pain. There has been a long-held myth that cancer doesn’t hurt, so breast pain is not a sign. This is not true, and can mean the opposite. HOWEVER, THIS DOESNT APPLY TO YOUNG WOMEN, AS CYCLICAL BREAST PAIN IS NORMAL, SO DONT PANIC, JUST CHECK REGULARLY FOR PHYSICAL CHANGES AS ADVISED.

So, dear sisters and brothers, men and women, I am grateful to my body for warning me early with pain, and I hope to have a positive outcome. Sorry this is so long, but if it reaches one woman of a certain age, and makes her take action because of breast pain, it will have been worth it.

Okay, job done. I’m off to buy candles, fruit, wine and incense for the fire pit. Tonight is Samhain!
